I don’t know why people say that January is the beginning of the winter doldrums. We are just going wild with fun things to do. It really perks up your perspective on gray days!
Decorative Finishes at Preservation Houston Show House
If you are following us on Facebook or Instagram, you have seen shots of the kitchen and artist library that we painted in the Preservation Houston Show House, Villa de Luxe. We were thrilled to be invited to participate, first by Interior Designer Marjorie Slovack to do the “artist library” ceiling and then by Interior Designers and Co-Chairs of the Show House, Jane Page Crump and Bill Stubbs to join with our fellow industry partners, Elegant Additions for plumbing and architectural elements, and G&S custom draperies, to create a new look for the kitchen. (I’m name dropping because I want you to see some of the talented people that are involved in the project.) Preservation Houston raises money to promote the preservation and appreciation of architectural and cultural historic resources here in town. In a city that likes to “tear it down to make way for the new” these people are heightening the awareness of beautiful old homes and buildings that add to our sense of community. The show house is a beautiful 1920's home located next to Rice University on about 2 acres. It’s tennis courts, swimming pool, and park like setting is like finding a diamond in the middle of a...It will be open to the public starting February 2. Please come by for a good cause and to see the transformation created by Houston’s best Interior Designers. Check out the ceilings in the 2 rooms I mentioned. I will be a docent in the kitchen for a few hours each weekend so stop in and say “Hi”.
I will be doing a power point presentation on decorative painting at the show house on Feb 16th, at 2pm. Smiling faces welcomed!
Houston Design Center's Sip & Stroll
Wednesday, we will be participating in the Houston Design Center’s Sip and Stroll. The Center is honoring "Leaders in Design." Interior Designers Andrea Garrity, Lucia Harness, and Julia Blalock are the honorees! Congratulations to them! We know Andrea and Lucia well and love their work. Our showroom will be open and serving an hors d’oeuvres to go with the ample bar outside our door. It should be a fun night now that the weather has warmed up!
February 12, at 9:15 am, in the ASID office I will be doing a CEU for interior designers called "The Inside Story On Natural Building." This year, registered Interior Designers need 12 CEUs to comply with state requirements. This will take care of 2 of them. The Houston Design Center is sponsoring this class so we can offer it at a much reduced price. Click here to sign up.
On the Live Well Network
Like that's is not enough...We will be filming our next segment for the Live Well Network show “Deals”. Although it is not decorative painting or faux finish-related we are demonstrating how to turn old kids' toys and an unwanted lamp into a pretty cool "Object d' Arte" for a kids room! I’ll let you know when it will air and of course I will take some pictures to post.
