Project Update – Diamond Plaster and Hand-Painted Design

Good News Beats the Winter Flu

I hope that the horrible flu or nasty cold that is making the rounds here in town has bypassed your house. Unfortunately, it came knocking at my door. I thought it said "free gold" not a "free cold" so I let it in. Not much fun.

The highlight of my recuperative time came from a former client. We did their job this past summer in Miami. Normally, when we complete our work, the rooms in the home are completely empty except for the finishes. That was true of this job, too. Of course, with its location on the East Coast, it was a bit too far away for us to run by later and take some shots when the rooms got put back together. However, I was tickled when my client called to say that once the furniture went back in and the art work was hung, that they photographed the rooms.

I thought I'd share a few shots of the completed decorative finishes with you.

Diamond Plaster finishes In the master bedroom we did a tinted diamond plaster finish on the walls and ceiling. This creates a soft, textural background.

Hand-painted scrolling acanthus leaf design over diamond plaster walls The client wanted a hand painted design to go over the diamond plaster. Notice the tail on the bird in the stained glass window? We used the curve and flow of the tail as inspiration for the over-scaled, scrolling acanthus leaf design.

View of master bedroom elements The design was painted by our friend and artist Sharon Leichsenring. The acanthus leaf worked well with the design in the carpet, too.

Built-in glazed cabinets The built-in cabinets were glazed to provide an enhanced sense of depth.

As you can see from these photos, this is a very comfortable room. Overall this room just has a good, neutral palette and a subtle but unmistakable personality – one that our clients love!
