The Joys of Remodeling...
If you have ever suffered through a remodel of your kitchen, bath, or any part of your home you know how discombobulating the whole process can be. There is dust and noise and what seems like a hundred people traipsing through your house. No wonder people would rather relocate than remodel but there is a happy medium. Maybe all you need is a re-do. How about a little sprucing up to give your room a new attitude? Designers will tell you that "T'is the season" to do just that. We had a recent client who wanted a total house redo without a remodel. They wanted their Tuscan style house to look more eclectic and modern. Most people don’t tackle a whole house but it is "do-able." They actually thought it was easier to re-do an existing house that to build.
If the budget won’t stand for a major re-do, try one room at a time. Just refreshing one room can make you feel differently about the space and the house.
Darkness gives way to light
The hallway was originally dark and dull. Notice the beautiful new light fixtures. The walls got a Diamond Plaster finish and then we stenciled a design on the groin ceiling to give emphasis to the curved shape.

Bold and beautiful
In the master bathroom the previous finish was a glaze to accent another groin ceiling. Nothing wrong with that but that was part of the "Tuscan look" they were trying to ditch. We gave it pizzazz! This Melanie Royals inspired design was hand painted in bold colors to give the room a fresh new look.

Getting cooler...and warmer
The kitchen started out black. This strong blue is not a color your normally think of when you say “Kitchen” but it works great in this space. We even did a little monogram on the hood to personalize it. The color was repeated in adjoining rooms so it made for a cohesive look.

The little office is tucked away behind pocket doors. This vibrant aqua blue is the clients favorite color. We made sure that when she opens those doors to her office that this room will give her a smile and a warm welcome.

Much more of this house will be showcased in the next issue of Houston Design Resource Magazine (October 5, 2013). It is really a stunner. The colors throughout the house are so fresh and fun, just like the clients. Please check it out.
We did a little change up to our office as well. Our office started off with a metallic plaster finish on the walls. We loved the color, but wanted something more. We had a service counter that we silver-leafed on the body and did a counter top in black to match the baseboards in the room...Voila! We love the new hand painted design in black. It's simple and elegant but the scale of the design gives it punch and uplifts the look. We really feel like it's a different room.
